imGoats project: Learning and reflection workshop

Udaipur, India, 2-6 July 2012

Our lessons learnt about capacity building

India:
  • Training set up for FGs working well (?? + follow up + retr.);
  • Exposure visits to gov. goat farmers for FG + supervisors worked well;
  • Materials developed/used are good but some topics are missing;
Mozambique:
  • Training set up for paravets working well (3 week + 1 retr. week after 2 months + follow up);
  • Information provided on VC + IPs sufficient although practical information on IP set up would have helped;
  • Exposure visit to commercial farmers with paravets, producers etc. very successful
Generally, demonstration and field visits are the best way to learn

What is missing:
India:
  • Jharkhand supervisor
  • Because the educational level is lower, we need more than training
  • Goat management etc. is needed
  • Central institute on research goat (CIRG) - already planned
Mozambique:
  • Didactic materials (AH, management, feeding, communication)
Generally:
  • Would be useful to develop practical guidelines on IP (how to start, different roles involved etc. ) and perhaps to include boundary partners in VC-IP training course;
  • Feedback on data collection to share data analysis results with different audiences
